What Registers as a Play — and Why Loops Change the Maths
TikTok counts a view at the moment of playback, with no watch-length toll gate on the public number. Autoplay means merely being served in the feed starts one. And because videos loop by default, a viewer who stays through a fifteen-second clip twice has quietly contributed multiple plays from one sitting.
The loop detail is the one worth internalising, because it is why short videos wear disproportionately large play counts. A clip whose length invites two or three automatic replays per viewer accumulates plays at a multiple of its actual audience — organically. Play counts on this platform have replay inflation built into their nature.
For a buyer, that cuts two ways. It means large view figures are native here and raise fewer eyebrows than they would elsewhere. It also means the play count was never a headcount to begin with — it is a volume-of-playback figure, and everyone fluent in the platform reads it that way.
